San Miguel County
Colorado
Highlights
- The Pitchfork Mine is a past producer and has existing development tunnels and shafts.
- Once existing historic resources are confirmed, the Pitchfork Mine could begin permitting for production.
- Due to faulting, the Pitchfork beds are rotated and sub-vertical, which allow for a more economical mining method.
Location
The Pitchfork project consists of the Pitchfork Mine. It is located in the Uravan Belt of the northwest flank of the Big Gypsum Valley in San Miguel County, Colorado, and could offer a significant mining opportunity.
Geology & Mineralization
Uravan ore bodies are typically flat-lying beds that are 3 to 6 feet thick and are mined horizontally. The diagram shows an example of a generalized cross section. Due to faulting, the Pitchfork beds are rotated and sub-vertical, which allow for a more economical mining method. The Pitchfork mine, a known past producer, has existing development tunnels and shafts.
Historic mining activity from the 1970’s was about 20,000 tons mined. Based on past drilling, the estimated remaining resource at the project is approximately 70,000 tons containing 248,750 pounds of uranium and 1,343,250 pounds of vanadium. The company is currently permitting the Pitchfork project for confirmation drilling to verify the existing resource and, once confirmed, could begin permitting for production.
